The “House Critters” Thanksgiving Dinner
The
critters were all excited, partly because the humans were all doing something
at once. Three of them were in the kitchen where the real reason for the
critters interest in what was going on was the great smells.
Henrietta
Bobbie Bunny was the eldest and along with Ducky Duck, Rainy Reindeer, Blue
Booby and Big Bunny were the house critters. They were trying to stay out of
the way, but still keep track of what was happening. The humans seemed most
interested in the turkey, as early this morning the critters had fun watching
Bob, one of the humans in the house, get it ready and put it in the oven to
cook. Then there was Bobs’ sister Deb, who was here for the day and had to keep
looking into the oven and saying how good the turkey looked. The critters did
not care about the turkey; they were interested in the mashed potatoes and
gravy, cranberries, rolls with butter, and Aunt Jackie’s pie.
There would be a lot of humans with the three
that normally lived in the house and four guests for dinner, the critters
needed to keep track of when what foods would be served so they could help
themselves to what each wanted the most. When Bob took the turkey out of the
oven to cool and started to make the gravy the critters went into overdrive.
They knew that everything but the pies would be put on the table before the humans
sat down, so that Deb could get pictures of the table setting with all the food
and especially the turkey to send to her spouse, who was having Thanksgiving
with one of her sisters.
The critters
got up in the chairs along the sides of the table, because the ones at the end
of the table were too far away from where the food would be placed for them to
reach it. They each had a bowl and everyone but Rainy had a spoon, so they each
would help Rainy get what he wanted. When the food started to be put on the
table they went to work, getting mashed potatoes and gravy for all, along with
the other items each liked. When Barb, one of the other human that lived in the
house, called the rest to dinner the critters knew it was time to scatter. This
was not as easy as you may think, as there were six humans coming from the
living room into the dining room and the critters wanted to go the opposite
way. They lined up by the hutch and waited for the humans to sit down then went
into the computer room to eat in peace, as the humans made a lot of noise
during any meal according to the critters. The computer room was a good place
to eat, as it had wooden floors, so cleanup would be better than on any of the
rugs and the critters had to admit they sometimes made a mess!
